The way of Go

8 Ancient Strategy Secrets for success in Business and Life

Troy Anderson

The intended audience for this book is the world of business, not the world of go players. In practice, I am not sure. The book contains autobiographical chapters about the writer discovering go up to his studying go as an insei in Japan. The main part consists of applying what he calls 'The Rules of Go' (go proverbs), to business situations. All this is done in a very entertaining way, making this book easy and pleasant to read for a go player. I am not sure whether someone without any knowledge of go can profit of it. We should know in a couple of months. On the other hand I believe that weaker go players can learn something of this books as the go 'rules' are explained very well. Though Troy Anderson did not reach the professional level, he is clearly a good player and a good teacher.

I cannot resist quoting a line of 'advanced praise' from the back of the book: "After reading Troy Andersons book, I am going to recommend that companies seek out Go players to design and manage their business strategies. A delightful account of how to playing the game of Go can lead to the development of a superior strategic mind-set".

Whether you like this book or not, for the western go associations and go teachers it is a great gift.
